Make sure to visit during the city’s annual gay pride parade and festival, Pride Pittsburgh, which takes place each June. And, yes, yes, there are gay clubs running along Liberty Avenue. There is a gay population living in the Mexican War Streets, a North Side neighborhood that was laid out in 1848 and features restored row-houses, gardens and tree-lined streets. There are gay-owned and gay-friendly establishments scattered throughout the city, with some cropping up in Lawrenceville and the Strip District. The Gay Scene in Pittsburghīelieve it or not, the setting for the Showtime TV series Queer As Folk lacks a central gay neighborhood. The Downtown “Cultural District” offers theatre and music.

John Heinz Regional History Center and the Carnegie Science Center to the Warhol Museum, the world’s largest repository of that seminal artist’s work. Pittsburgh, which was recently rated America’s Most Livable City, is home to several first-class museums, from the Sen. This isn’t your grandfather’s Pittsburgh. The smoke-spewing steel mills of the place where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio have faded and given way to a city overflowing with culture and character.
